Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Li Hua , a 19-year-old boy. I’m writing to apply a job as a student guide in the summer vocation.
To begin with, as a senior high student, I’m used to practicing speaking English in everyday life. I often chat with some net-pals in my spare time, which really contributes to my fluency in oral English. So I can communicate with foreigners without any difficulties. Besides, I’m open—minded, quick in thought and very fond of social practice, which I think is a quality that a good guide should have. Above all, as a native of the city, I know a lot about its history and culture. So I’m sure that the visitors will appreciate my work and enjoy their stay in our city.
If I’m given the chance to be a guide, I’ll spare no effort to do it well. I’m looking forward to it.
I’m glad to know that you are coming to China during Christmas. The following is a brief introduction about some places of interest that I strongly recommend to you.
The Great Wall of China is one of the great wonders in the world, which is visible from outer space. Because of its rich history and magnificent appearance, the Great Wall attracts a lot of tourist, scientist, and historians.
The famous West Lake is like a brilliant pearl embedded in the beautiful and fertile shores of East China Sea near the mouth of the Hangzhou Bay. The view of the West Lake is simply charming. Different time and different weather make it a different scene.
I’m looking forward to your arrival. There are many other wonderful places here. Wish you a nice journey!
I’m delighted that you’re coming to China as an exchange student. I’m writing to convey my warm welcome.
I know you show great interest in Chinese calligraphy, so I’d like to recommend a course in calligraphy offered by our school. Calligraphy is the art of producing beautiful writing using brushes, which is not only a technique for writing Chinese characters but also a way to bring people inner peace. The course is given by Mr. Chen, who is experienced in this field and popular with students. It’s given at 9a.m. every Saturday in school library and is especially suitable for beginners, for Mr. Chen will teach the basic skills in calligraphy.
Why not attend this course? I’m sure you will fall in love with calligraphy if you attend it and have a glimpse of the abundant traditional Chinese culture.
I am glad to learn that you will visit China this summer.
You want to visit just a few beautiful cities in China. I suggest you should travel to Beijing and Nanjing, because these two cities have well preserved traditional Chinese culture and have numerous places of interest. Beijing is now the capital of China, which lies in North China, and Nanjing, a large city on the Yangtze River in South China, used to be where quite a few dynasties founded their capital. I believe you will enjoy these two ancient and modern cities. If time permits, you can as well visit another modern large city Shanghai, which is very near Nanjing.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
